100 Common Mistakes In English (26-30)

❌ 26. "Phone to him" → ✅ "Phone him / Call him"

Penjelasan: Kata kerja phone dan call adalah transitive verbs (kata kerja transitif) — mereka langsung diikuti objek tanpa preposisi to. Jadi "phone him" sudah benar, "phone to him" salah.

Contoh kalimat benar:

  1. I will phone him as soon as I get home.
  2. Please call me when you arrive at the station.
  3. She phoned her mother yesterday to wish her a happy birthday.

❌ 27. "Listen me" → ✅ "Listen to me"

Penjelasan: Berbeda dengan phone dan call, kata kerja listen adalah intransitive verb — ia membutuhkan preposisi to sebelum objek. Jadi "listen to me" benar, "listen me" salah.

Contoh kalimat benar:

  1. You should listen to your teacher during the lesson.
  2. I love listening to music while I work.
  3. Listen to me carefully; this is important.

❌ 28. "Pay attention on details" → ✅ "Pay attention to details"

Penjelasan: Frasa yang benar adalah pay attention to (perhatikan pada sesuatu). Preposisi to yang tepat, bukan on.

Contoh kalimat benar:

  1. You need to pay attention to the instructions before starting.
  2. The manager always pays attention to every small detail in the report.
  3. Students should pay attention to their pronunciation when speaking English.

❌ 29. "Divided into two halves" → ✅ "Divided into halves"

Penjelasan: Kata halves (bentuk jamak dari half) sudah berarti "dua bagian". Jadi menambahkan two menjadi redundan (berlebihan). Cukup "divided into halves" atau kalau ingin menyebut jumlahnya, gunakan "divided into two parts."

Contoh kalimat benar:

  1. The cake was divided into halves and shared equally.
  2. The class was divided into halves for the group activity.
  3. The pizza was divided into halves, so each person got one piece.

❌ 30. "On the end of the street" → ✅ "At the end of the street"

Penjelasan: Frasa yang tepat adalah at the end of untuk menyatakan posisi di ujung sesuatu (jalan, lorong, baris, dll.). On the end tidak tepat dalam konteks ini.

Contoh kalimat benar:

  1. There is a convenience store at the end of the street.
  2. My house is at the end of the road on the left side.
  3. We will meet at the end of the corridor after the class.
