Assalamu’alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.
All praise is due to Allah SWT who has given us health, faith, mercy, and countless blessings so that we are able to gather in this place today. Peace and salutation be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad SAW, his family, his companions, and all Muslims around the world who continue to follow his teachings until the end of time.
Honorable teachers, respected guests, and my beloved friends,
Today, I would like to deliver a speech about “Devotion to Parents.”

Dear brothers and sisters,
In Islam, parents hold a very honorable and noble position. They are the people who love us sincerely from the moment we are born until the end of their lives. Our parents take care of us patiently, educate us with love, and sacrifice their time, energy, wealth, and happiness for our future.
A mother carries her child for nine months with pain and difficulty. She gives birth with great struggle and continues to care for her child day and night. A father works hard to provide food, clothing, education, and protection for the family. Because of their endless sacrifices, Islam commands Muslims to honor and obey their parents.
Allah SWT says in the Holy Qur’an:
وَقَضَىٰ رَبُّكَ أَلَّا تَعْبُدُوا إِلَّا إِيَّاهُ وَبِالْوَالِدَيْنِ إِحْسَانًا
This verse clearly shows that after worshipping Allah SWT, Muslims are commanded to treat their parents kindly. We must speak to them politely, listen to their advice, help them in their daily needs, and never hurt their feelings.
Dear audience,
Nowadays, many children easily become angry with their parents, ignore their advice, or even speak harshly to them. This behavior is strongly forbidden in Islam. Allah SWT even warns Muslims not to say rude words to their parents.
Allah SWT says:
فَلَا تَقُلْ لَهُمَا أُفٍّ وَلَا تَنْهَرْهُمَا وَقُل لَّهُمَا قَوْلًا كَرِيمًا
This verse teaches us that even saying small hurtful words to parents is unacceptable. Islam teaches kindness, patience, and gentleness toward parents.
Prophet Muhammad SAW also emphasized the importance of honoring parents. He said:
رِضَا الرَّبِّ فِي رِضَا الْوَالِدِ، وَسَخَطُ الرَّبِّ فِي سَخَطِ الْوَالِدِ
From this hadith, we understand that making our parents happy is one of the ways to gain Allah’s pleasure. On the contrary, hurting our parents may bring Allah’s anger.
Dear brothers and sisters,
Being devoted to parents is not only by obeying them but also by showing love and gratitude every day. Simple actions such as helping them at home, studying seriously, speaking respectfully, and praying for them are forms of devotion.
As children, we should realize that our parents are getting older day by day. When we were young, they cared for us patiently. Therefore, when they become old and weak, we must care for them lovingly and respectfully.
Prophet Muhammad SAW once taught the companions about the importance of mothers. A man came to the Prophet and asked:
“Who deserves my best companionship?”
The Prophet replied:
“Your mother.”
The man asked again, “Then who?”
The Prophet replied:
“Your mother.”
The man asked again, “Then who?”
The Prophet replied:
“Your mother.”
Then the Prophet said:
This hadith shows the extraordinary position of mothers in Islam because of their great sacrifice and endless love.
Dear friends,
Even after our parents pass away, our duty to them does not end. We should continue praying for them, giving charity on their behalf, and continuing the good deeds they loved.
Allah SWT teaches us a beautiful prayer in the Qur’an:
رَّبِّ ارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرًا
This prayer reminds us to always remember our parents’ kindness and sacrifice throughout our lives.
Dear audience,
In today’s modern era, many people become too busy with technology, work, and social media that they forget to spend time with their parents. Some parents feel lonely because their children rarely talk to them or visit them.
Therefore, let us make our parents happy while they are still alive. Spend time with them, listen to their stories, help them sincerely, and never make them cry because of our actions.
Remember that wealth, success, and achievements will not be meaningful if we disappoint our parents. True success is when we can make Allah SWT and our parents pleased with us.
Closing
In conclusion, devotion to parents is one of the greatest deeds in Islam. Parents are the people who sacrifice the most for our lives and future. Therefore, we must always respect, obey, help, love, and pray for them every day.
Let us become children who bring happiness, pride, and comfort to our parents. May Allah SWT bless our parents with health, happiness, forgiveness, and paradise.
