Assalamu’alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.
All praise is due to Allah SWT, the Lord of the worlds, who has given us life, strength, health, and opportunities to do good deeds. Peace and blessings be upon Prophet Muhammad SAW, his family, companions, and all Muslims who strive in the way of Allah until the end of time.
Honorable teachers, beloved friends, and respected audience,
Today, I would like to deliver a speech entitled “Working as the Dhikr of the Body and Mind.”

Dear brothers and sisters,
In Islam, work is not merely an activity to earn money or fulfill worldly needs. Work is also considered a form of worship when it is done sincerely, honestly, and responsibly for the sake of Allah SWT. Islam teaches Muslims to become productive individuals who contribute positively to society.
The phrase “working as the dhikr of the body and mind” means that productive activities carried out with good intentions can become acts of remembrance of Allah. Just as the tongue performs dhikr by mentioning Allah’s name, the body and mind also perform dhikr through beneficial actions and hard work.
Allah SWT says in the Holy Qur’an:
وَقُلِ اعْمَلُوا فَسَيَرَى اللَّهُ عَمَلَكُمْ وَرَسُولُهُ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ
This verse encourages Muslims to work hard and perform righteous deeds. Islam does not teach laziness or dependence on others. Instead, Muslims are encouraged to strive, make efforts, and seek lawful sustenance.
Dear audience,
Prophet Muhammad SAW was also a hardworking person. Before becoming a prophet, he worked as a merchant known for his honesty and trustworthiness. He taught Muslims that working with sincerity and honesty is a noble act.
The Prophet Muhammad SAW said:
مَا أَكَلَ أَحَدٌ طَعَامًا قَطُّ خَيْرًا مِنْ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ مِنْ عَمَلِ يَدِهِ
This hadith teaches us the importance of earning income through lawful and honest work. Islam values people who work hard to support themselves and their families.
Dear brothers and sisters,
Working also trains discipline, patience, responsibility, and perseverance. Through work, humans can develop their abilities and contribute to the welfare of society. Teachers educate students, farmers grow food, doctors save lives, and workers provide important services for communities. Every beneficial profession can become an act of worship if done sincerely for Allah SWT.
In addition, work keeps both the body and mind active and productive. Laziness can lead to weakness, hopelessness, and negative behavior. Productive activities help people remain focused, healthy, and optimistic.
Islam teaches balance between worship and work. Muslims are encouraged to pray, read the Qur’an, and remember Allah, but they are also encouraged to work diligently and fulfill their responsibilities. A Muslim should not separate religious devotion from worldly effort.
Dear audience,
Nowadays, many people think success is measured only by wealth and status. However, Islam teaches that true success comes from halal earnings, honesty, integrity, and usefulness to others.
A small job done sincerely is better than great wealth obtained dishonestly. Therefore, Muslims should avoid corruption, cheating, laziness, and harmful behavior in the workplace.
Furthermore, work can strengthen social relationships and help society grow. When people work responsibly and ethically, communities become more prosperous and harmonious.
Dear friends,
As students and young Muslims, we should prepare ourselves to become hardworking, disciplined, and responsible individuals. We must study seriously, develop our skills, and use our talents for goodness.
We should also remember that every effort made with sincere intentions can become worship in the sight of Allah SWT. Whether we are studying, teaching, helping others, or working professionally, all can become acts of dhikr if done sincerely and honestly.

In conclusion, Islam teaches that work is not only a worldly necessity but also a noble form of worship. Working sincerely, honestly, and responsibly is a form of dhikr performed by the body and mind.
Let us become hardworking Muslims who balance worship, knowledge, and productive effort for the benefit of ourselves, society, and our religion.
