One day, a neighbor came to Nasruddin with a problem and lamented, "I am really troubled. My house is so small, and it is becoming difficult to fit my family—my wife, my three children, and my mother—all inside." Looking at Nasruddin, he pleaded, "You are a wise man. Do you have any advice for me?"
Nasruddin replied, "Yes, I can help you. But first, tell me, do you have any chickens in your yard?"
The neighbor replied, "Yes, I have ten chickens."
"Good," said Nasruddin. "Go home and put them all inside your house."
Hearing this, the neighbor was shocked. "But… I just told you that my house is already cramped!"
Nasruddin insisted that he bring the chickens inside. Desperate for a solution, the man followed his advice.
The next day, the neighbor returned, looking even more distressed. "Things are worse! With the chickens inside, my family is even more miserable."
Nasruddin nodded and said, "You have a donkey, don’t you? Take that donkey and put him inside the house as well."
The neighbor objected, but Nasruddin eventually convinced him to do it.
The next day, the man came back, looking frantic. "Now the house is impossibly crowded! There is not enough room to even move."
Nasruddin asked, "Do you have any other animals in your yard?"
The neighbor replied, "Yes, I have a goat."
Nasruddin advised him to bring the goat inside the house, too. Although the neighbor resisted, Nasruddin persisted until he finally agreed.
The following day, the neighbor returned, exhausted. "Everyone in my family is furious with me! There is no space left, and our lives have become miserable."
This time, Nasruddin said, "Don’t worry, everything will be fine. Now, go home and take all the animals out of your house and put them back in the yard."
The neighbor followed the instructions. The next day, he visited Nasruddin again and remarked, "Nasruddin, your plan worked like a charm! Now that the animals are out, the house feels so spacious. My family is happy, and we no longer complain about the space. I am very thankful for your help."
