Good morning, honorable principals, respected teachers, devoted administrators, and my beloved fellow students.
Today, on the 22nd of October, we gather to commemorate National Santri Day, a day that holds a special place in the heart of our nation.
This day is more than a ceremonial date on the calendar. It is a living testament to the bravery, faith, dedication, and sacrifice of millions of santri and ulama who stood at the forefront of Indonesia's struggle for independence.
In 2025, we also celebrate a historic milestone—ten years since the Indonesian government officially designated October 22nd as National Santri Day.
Today, we honor their legacy while reflecting on our own responsibility as the next generation.

Why do we commemorate October 22nd?
On this very day in 1945, only two months after Indonesia proclaimed its independence, the nation faced the threat of colonial reoccupation.
At that critical moment, KH. Hasyim Asy'ari, one of Indonesia's most respected Islamic scholars, issued the historic Resolusi Jihad—a religious decree declaring that defending Indonesia's independence was the sacred duty of every Muslim.
This declaration ignited the spirit of resistance across the Indonesian archipelago.
Santri from countless pesantren left their classrooms, carried simple bamboo spears, and fought alongside other freedom fighters to defend the newly independent nation.
Their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering faith helped shape the Indonesia we proudly call home today.
Today, however, our challenges are different.
We no longer fight against colonial armies.
Instead, we face ignorance, intolerance, moral decline, misinformation, and the complex challenges of globalization and rapid technological change.
This is why the 2025 National Santri Day Theme carries such profound meaning:
"Mengawal Indonesia Merdeka, Menuju Peradaban Dunia."
Or in English:
"Guarding an Independent Indonesia, Towards a World Civilization."
This theme conveys two important messages.
Guarding an Independent Indonesia
Independence is not merely something we achieved in the past—it is something we must continue to protect.
Young people, especially santri, are called to become guardians of national unity, religious harmony, diversity, and the values of Pancasila.
Towards a World Civilization
Today's santri must prepare themselves to contribute not only to Indonesia but also to the global community.
Alongside religious knowledge, they should master science, technology, innovation, and international communication.
The digital world should become a place for education, positive influence, and meaningful dakwah.
To my fellow students, whether you are a santri or not, the spirit of National Santri Day belongs to all of us.
Let us embody the values of ikhlas (sincerity), perseverance, and akhlak mulia (noble character).
Let us become courageous in defending truth, compassionate in serving others, and relentless in pursuing knowledge.
Indonesia's future depends on young people who are not only intelligent but also honest, responsible, and morally upright.
Closing
As we conclude this National Santri Day commemoration, let us remember that the spirit of jihad is not always expressed through physical struggle.
Today, our greatest struggle is to seek knowledge, strengthen our character, spread kindness, and contribute positively to society.
Let us continue to guard the independence our heroes fought so hard to achieve.
Let us build a civilization illuminated by faith, knowledge, compassion, and peace.
May the legacy of KH. Hasyim Asy'ari and the countless heroic santri continue to inspire generations of Indonesians.
