STAND-UP COMEDY: INDONESIAN HEALTHCARE

(Roasting Edition – Savage & Sarcastic)

Opening

Good evening everybody!

Let's talk about healthcare in Indonesia.

A country where medical science and pure superstition have agreed to coexist peacefully.

In Indonesia, we don't have symptoms.

We have one diagnosis for everything.

"Masuk angin."

Headache?

Masuk angin.

Fever?

Masuk angin.

Back pain?

Masuk angin.

Heartbreak?

Masuk angin.

Bankruptcy?

Still masuk angin.

At this point, "masuk angin" sounds less like a disease and more like an evil spirit.

Main Content

The funniest thing about Indonesian healthcare is that everyone becomes a doctor.

Everybody.

Your mother.

Your neighbor.

Your uncle.

The guy selling fried rice.

All medical professionals.

You tell someone:

"I have a headache."

Immediately:

"Drink more water."

"I have a broken leg."

"Drink more water."

"My marriage is failing."

"Have you tried drinking more water?"

Water in Indonesia is apparently medicine, therapy, legal advice, and relationship counseling.

And then there's the national treatment:

Kerokan.

For foreigners who don't know, kerokan is when someone scrapes your back with a coin until you look like you lost a fight with Wolverine.

Science says:
"We need more research."

Indonesian moms say:
"Trust me."

That's peer-reviewed enough.

The crazy part?

It works.

Nobody knows why.

Even doctors are probably confused.

You walk in looking half dead.

Twenty minutes later:

"I'm cured."

Medical journals are trembling.

And don't get me started on Indonesian dads.

Indonesian dads can survive anything.

Broken knee?

Walk it off.

Fever?

Walk it off.

Earthquake?

Walk it off.

Meteor strike?

"Just rest."

My dad treats every illness like he's coaching a football team.

Meanwhile Indonesian moms have the opposite approach.

You sneeze once.

ONE TIME.

And suddenly she's planning your funeral.

"Are you okay?"

"Do you need soup?"

"Should we call the doctor?"

Mom, I sneezed.

I didn't meet the Grim Reaper.

And then we have Doctor Google.

The most terrifying doctor in history.

You search:

"Mild headache."

Google responds:

"You have three hours to live."

How?

How does every symptom lead to death?

I searched "dry throat."

Google basically wrote my obituary.

And people trust Google too much.

Someone watches two YouTube videos and suddenly challenges actual doctors.

Doctor:
"You have a cold."

Patient:
"Interesting."

"Because according to a man named CryptoWolf89..."

No.

No sentence should ever begin with:

"According to CryptoWolf89."

And let's talk about BPJS.

BPJS is like a reality TV show.

You enter with a cough.

You leave with twenty new friends.

The waiting room is basically a community center.

At some point you know everybody's life story.

You've exchanged family histories.

You've made business contacts.

Someone's invited you to their wedding.

And you're still waiting for your number.

BPJS doesn't measure time in minutes.

It measures time in generations.

And hospitals are funny too.

Hospitals are the only place where you're already sick...

And they still make you fill out seventeen forms.

Bro, I can barely breathe.

Why are you giving me homework?

I came for treatment.

Not an administrative exam.

And Indonesian medicine has two extremes.

One person refuses all medication.

"Natural remedies only."

Another person takes twelve different medicines for a cough.

At that point you're not treating symptoms.

You're conducting pharmaceutical research.

And every Indonesian family has that one relative.

The Herbal Expert.

The guy who thinks leaves can cure everything.

Cancer?

Leaves.

Diabetes?

Leaves.

Broken heart?

Leaves.

Alien invasion?

Boil these leaves.

The aliens will leave.

No evidence.

Maximum confidence.

Closing

I love Indonesian healthcare.

Because nowhere else can you find modern medicine, traditional healing, internet conspiracy theories, and family advice competing in the same room.

A doctor gives you medicine.

Your mom gives you herbal drinks.

Your aunt suggests kerokan.

Google tells you you're dying.

And somehow...

You survive all of them.

Thank you everybody!

Give it up for Indonesian healthcare...

The only system where your official diagnosis, your mom's diagnosis, and Google's diagnosis are three completely different diseases.
