Dzikir: The Food of the Heart

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

Dear brothers and sisters,

Today we will discuss Dzikir, the remembrance of Allah. Dzikir is one of the most beautiful acts in Islam because it connects the servant directly to Allah. The tongue remembers Allah, but the true dzikir comes from the heart.

A heart without dzikir becomes dry, weak, and restless. But a heart filled with dzikir becomes peaceful and alive.

My dear Muslims,

Allah created human beings with hearts that need spiritual nourishment. Just as the body needs food, the soul also needs food. The food of the soul is dzikir.

When we say:

“Subhanallah”
“Alhamdulillah”
“Allahu Akbar”
“La ilaha illallah”

we are actually cleaning our hearts from darkness.

Many people today suffer from anxiety, stress, and sadness because they are far from Allah. They remember money more than they remember their Creator.

Dzikir brings calmness to the soul. Allah says:

“Indeed, by the remembrance of Allah, hearts become peaceful.”

Brothers and sisters,

Dzikir is not only done in the mosque. We can remember Allah everywhere:

  • while walking,
  • while working,
  • before sleeping,
  • after prayer,
  • and even in silence.

The Sufis teach that constant dzikir makes the heart awake. A person whose heart remembers Allah will feel Allah’s presence in every moment.

One scholar said:

“When the tongue is busy with dzikir, the heart becomes illuminated.”

The beauty of dzikir is that it is easy, but its reward is enormous.

Dear brothers and sisters,

Let us make dzikir part of our daily life. Let our tongues be wet with the remembrance of Allah, and may our hearts always stay connected to Him.

May Allah make us among those who remember Him day and night.

Wassalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
