One day, a man decided to observe the intelligence of a small creature. Near the edge of a pond, he planted a stick firmly into the water so that it stood upright like a tiny island in the middle of the pond.
Then he carefully placed a spider on the tip of the stick and waited to see what the little creature would do to escape from its unusual prison.
The spider slowly crawled down the stick, searching for a way out. When it reached the water, it realized that its path was blocked. It could not swim across the pond, and there was no nearby surface to climb onto.
Undeterred, the spider circled around the stick several times, carefully inspecting every possible direction. It seemed determined to find an escape route. However, after repeated attempts, it discovered that there was no easy way off the stick.
The spider then climbed back to the top and remained motionless for a while. To the man, it appeared as though the tiny creature was deep in thought, trying to devise a solution to its problem.
After some time, the spider finally acted.
It began to release a long silk thread from its body. One end of the thread remained attached to the top of the stick, while the other end drifted freely in the air. The spider patiently waited, as if trusting nature to help complete its plan.
A gentle breeze soon carried the thread across the pond. By good fortune, it landed on a small tree growing near the water's edge and became firmly attached to one of its branches.
The spider had successfully created a bridge.
Without hesitation, it carefully crossed along the silk thread until it safely reached the tree and then climbed down to solid ground.
The man watched in amazement. He realized that even a creature as small as a spider possesses the instincts, abilities, and wisdom needed to overcome difficulties and survive.
